National Irish magazine, Hot Press, has premiered our new music video “Pretty Polly” along with an article on their website (click here to see the post).

Click the image below to watch the video, feel free to share it with your friends and family and on social media!

Our upcoming Ep “Some Distant Shore” is just around the corner, if you haven’t already, the Ep is available to pre-order here (you get a track download of “Pretty Polly” straight away).

The next video, “Red Is The Rose” is due out in just a couple of weeks. Over the last four years, we’ve been shooting footage of our time spent in Ireland (including some previously unseen footage from when we first met).

The video is in honour of this marvellous country that has been so good to us every time we visit.
Stay safe, stay sane and stay tuned!

P.S. Special thanks to Dave and Carol for helping us find a place to stay for the next chapter!

A Distancing Thread

Hello from sunny Ireland! Many folks have been asking how we’re holding up and when we are going play some online gigs. We wanted to take a moment to address the challenges we are facing and to share with you more in-depth about what we have been up to creatively.

In the wake of our canceled tour (and with gigs continuing to be cancelled well into the summer) we have had a lot of things to process.

1. The nomadic lifestyle that we have happily lived for the past 4 years together (and longer before that individually) has suddenly become a lot more challenging. Neither of us have homes here in Ireland (or back in our respective countries, for that matter,) but thanks to the generosity of friends, we have been able to follow the ‘social distancing’ rules since the 10th of March.

2. Our next move is a big unknown. We are faced with some difficult choices: The USA has closed its borders to non-residents (so Robert can’t get in) and there is the fear that if we wait too long the UK might do the same. Robert’s family in the UK is in self-isolation so we will not be able to stay with them if/when we do go to the UK. We know that we are stronger together, and we would like to find a way to continue to be together through this difficult time, however as we assess the situation it may make sense for us to separate and we’ll both be faced with finding housing on our own. We are currently hoping to find a place in the UK where we can stay while social distancing. If anyone has any ideas or leads please send them our way!

3. This tour in Ireland and the following tour in the UK took months and months (with some venues and festivals, even years) of work to put togehter and it will take just as long, if not longer, to re-book them. At this time, we have paused booking/re-booking for the summer/fall/future until we can get a better picture as to where we will be and what our options are.

4. As for creativity, we are working hard and playing hard! We are trying to use this time as constructively and creatively as possible. The record release show for our folk EP ‘Some Distant Shore’ will now be held virtually on the 22nd of May and you’re all invited! Keep an ear out for updates on how to join us. You can pre-order the EP here and you’ll get one track download straight away! We will also release the official music videos for each song on the EP over the coming months with the first single ‘Pretty Polly’ out in April! (check out the teaser below). We will be sharing other creative endeavors as the weeks unfold!

5. Little things you can do, (not just for us, but for any artists you like and want to support): Find them on as many online platforms as possible. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reverbnation, Spotify, etc. ‘like’ them, ‘like’ their youtube videos, subscribe to them, follow them, sign up for their newsletters. Share their music on your own social media: videos, posts, Spotify playlists, re-tweet their tweets etc. comment on their videos, posts, tweets, ‘grams, etc. and whenever possible, request them on the radio. Even these little things go a long way, so share the music and share the love!

Thank you to those whoy have reached out and continue to reach out, it means the world to us.

Volcanoes and Fireworks

Volcanoes and fireworks

won't keep us warm

but they shone brightly

as we waited for the last boat,

saying goodbye to the lake, to the landscape, to the friends (old and new)

and headed back through the mountains to Antigua.

Guatemala has been good to us, ever full of surprises.  As well as squeezing in a midnight music video shoot, Our shows in and around the town of Antigua were interrupted with two mini tours: One to the rainforest and turquoise pools of Semuc Champey in Lanquin (to play at some hostels there) and one took us back to lake Atitlan where we played at our favorite spot, La Iguana Perdida.

It was our second Christmas day show at the Iguana in 2 years and with all the familiar faces, it felt like being with family.

We stayed in the oldest building on the property where you can hear the night time boracho's howling with laughter and clinking glasses.

The original land owner, Sarito, floated the wooden panels across the lake so he could build the ramshackle refuge.  Now, thirty years on, the place is a mecca for old souls and keen travelers.  You never know who's going to walk through that rainbow gate, but they sure will be in the right place.  Check out the hostel website here

Our time in Guatemala is trickling away and soon enough, Alicia is heading to North Carolina until March and I'm going back to England.

While we've been away we haven't forgotten our Lichfield community, in fact we've been working with The Hub at St. Mary's in Lichfield on a new music series called 'Transatlantic Folk'.  Inspired by our sell out show with 'Chris Elliott and Caitlin Jones' back in August we have curated this fresh new music series.  We will be highlighting up and coming acts from around the UK (and maybe beyond) that we have met in our travels, that have inspired us, and who we know our hometown fan base will enjoy.

The first gig in the series will be a homecoming of sorts, hosted on Jan 24th at The Hub at St Mary's (ticket link here) I will be opening (solo) for The Magpies (AKA Bella, Polly and the Magpies) with some new material as well as some old favourites! If you’re in the UK, join the Facebook event here and get your tickets online!

Until then,

ADT

HUNGRY FOR TIME

public.jpeg

"It’s like living two lives”, Alicia said as she pointed the nose of the long black Volvo straight down route 54 towards Saxapahaw.

"One here and one over there”.

England seemed a long way away as we pulled up to where we’re house sitting.

Taking some time to plan out our next tours and releases.

A month to play catch up.

Still hungry for time

Here’s a little live video we filmed in Mexico back in March. We are eternally grateful for the people who donated to our Kickstarter last year and this video is part of the reward for one fan who chose the ‘Jukebox’ reward. Thanks and enjoy!

We’re booking shows in Ireland/NI for March and April and in the UK from May to October.

For those of you interested in booking us for a house concert or private event, now is a good time to reach out. Just reply or email us and ask for more info.

We’re also delighted to announce that we will be heading back to Guatemala for a tour this November and December!

On Sunday we will be performing at the first Arcana Songwriter Showcase in Durham, NC, alongside local acts, D Town Deuce and Neville’s Quarter.

This showcase is our own creation and we're hosting the nights from 7-9pm every Sunday in October.  Each week will feature a selection of the Triangle’s finest songsmiths, sharing their work in an intimate live setting.  It’s a free show but donations for the artist are gratefully accepted. Check out the Facebook event here and find Arcana at 331 W Main St, Durham.

ACROSS THE POND

“Yeah but I like being able to do what I want!” said Mark, a friend who’s been an actor for over 30 years.

We sat with him over tea and discussed, amongst other things, the challenges of self promotion.

I have to give it to him

he has a point

Greeting from Appalachia,

we’re in Asheville, it’s late summer and the bees are almost as busy as we are.

After successfully hopping across the pond, we launched straight into a busy week and have been playing catch up with admin since our recording session last month in Bristol.

The five tracks that we recorded will form an EP of traditional folk ballads that we have re-arranged ourselves.  Aside from one, these are songs from England and Ireland that all crossed over the Atlantic at some point and were changed in the travelling process.

We aim to continue the journey of these songs with this album which will be released in the spring.  (Keep an ear out.)

Over the weekend we got to open for Paperhand Puppet Intervention and played two shows to a packed house, followed by a show at Isis Music Hall, here in Asheville.

With a slightly smaller following here in the US, we were glad for such a warm welcome.  If you’re in NC then you need to check out Paperhand (a giant puppet troop) at www.paperhand.org they run through September so there’s still time to catch a show!

Over the next month we will be mostly in the North Carolina Piedmont but dipping into Virginia and South Carolina too, we’d love to see y’all at a show:

SMELL THE ROSES

It’s a mad wind that fills our sails of late

Warm and heavy like the thunderstorms above us

It has been, by far, the busiest two weeks of touring we have ever had in the UK and we still have so many shows to look forward to

Flashes of the country go by in the blink of an eye as we travel up and down the length of Old Blighty, Scotland and Wales

The sound of the van wheels rolling beneath us, harmonising with our whirring minds and our thumping hearts

Astounded by the beauty and diversity of the landscape

Ever touched by the sincerity, generosity and honesty of the people who listen, dance and connect with our music

Impressed by the hospitality of those who welcome us into their homes

Looking over our shoulders at the world’s news as it bites at our heels

Trying not to let it weigh too heavy

Asking, as ever, what can we do to evoke positive change

For now we write this from a sanctuary in Oswestry, working up new songs in an old chapel

A quiet place to soothe our aches and recharge

tired

yet so grateful to be here

still here

living our passion

and finding time to stop and smell the roses

...or taste the raspberries

or swim wild

if you’re reading this, then we miss you

and we look forward to seeing you

and remember,

we always have a spare seat in our van

Your fan,

ADT
